Jesus declares: "The Sabbath Gives Life!” Luke 6:1-11. Luke likes to report what Jesus does on the Sabbath. Up to now he is consistently teaching in the Jewish synagogues. In Luke 6 we find Jesus and those following on the Sabbath walking through fields of grain and taking some to eat along the way. The disciples are violating the Jewish code for keeping the Sabbath by harvesting and threshing. Healing is also not allowed, as the teachers of the law point out several verses later. Jesus invites us to step away from the “you can not” to “this is what gives life” on the Sabbath. As we seek to discover life and renewal we can look for the life-giving interactions that provide rest. Questions to ponder: - What are the “do’s" and the "don’ts” for your Sundays? Where do they originate? - What was Jesus telling us about rest on Sundays? ![]()
